A Christian Dior sable jacket, circa 1960. large white on black satin Paris label, with elbow length sleeves, wide bateau neckline, the hem edged in tails, lined in black silk, chest approx 102cm, 40in Provenance: Mrs Beverley Hylton (née Prowse, of Queensland Australia), the wife of Jack Hylton the world famous band leader and impresario. A great beauty, she was crowned Miss Victoria in her homeland, and voted Miss Australia by the readers of the News of the World in 1954, as there was no official Australian contestant at the time. The following year she was officially adopted as Miss Australia and was runner up in the Miss World competition 1955. Prior to her marriage she occasionally modelled for Balmain, Dior and Givenchy. After her marriage in the early 1960s, her wealthy husband, Jack Hylton, sent her to the Paris couture shows to choose a new wardrobe but she returned to London empty handed explaining that the clothes were too expensive. Her husband was so outraged he put her back on the very next plane and told her to make some orders!.
