A rare Salvador Dali for Schiaparelli enamelled metal 'Telephone Dial' compact, 1935. unsigned with 'made in France' to interior, and engraved central owner's name and telephone number 'Dawn Leighton, Buxton, Tel.651, the black enamel dial stencilled with letters and numbers, with silvered pointer cast in one with the lid, the interior with mirror and original powder, pad and sifter, plain polished silvered metal back, 8.5cm, 3in diameter It's unusual to find the owner's details actually engraved. Buxton is an elegant spa town built by the Duke of Devonshire atop the crest of a hill in Derbyshire's Peak District and is admired for its Georgian and Victorian architecture. So far it has not been possible to find out more about Miss Leighton, but she was certainly a very stylish girl! The design of this compact in 1935 marks the first collaboration between Elsa Schiaparelli and Salvador Dali..
