An interesting tulle tabard beaded with Egyptian motifs, circa 1922. with kneeling figures to hem, snakes, birds and flower-heads, worked in colourful seed and cut beads, faceted jet-black beads and embroidered with metallic threads, bust 92cm, 36in Provenance: Gwendolyn James (the vendor's grandmother), who was born into a wealthy Welsh family c.1885 and died c.1981 in Putney, London, aged 96. She had two children from her first marriage and a son from her second to a Mr. John James. A relation of Sir Charles Jackson, the benefactor of the 'Jackson Silver' collection held in the Cardiff museum, Gwendolyn is rumoured to have spent most of her vast inheritance on clothes..
